Senior 6th grade camp counselors. About a week ago, I attended my first year as a counselor at Ladue Middle School's 6th Grade Camp. I haven't been back to Camp Mihaska since my own 6th grade year. The purpose of the camp is to get the 6th graders to meet new people, but also to learn team building skills while being in a group they aren't used to. The camp offers group activities that tests the kids ability to work together and communicate. For my group, they weren't good with each other at the beginning. But by the end it was amazing to see the growth they made with each other as a team but also individually. There were natural leaders of the group who learned to take a step back and let the team work together. There were people in the group that definitely held the group back, but that did not stop our mighty team 11 from completing all the activities. They truly were encouraging and stayed positive almost the entire time. The only negative thing about the whole experience is how much school I missed, as well as some volleyball practices. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who's thinking about considering being a counselor.
