This past weekend, I went to the college I am attending called Graceland University. It was a weekend made full of interviews, meeting teachers, as well as current students for their "Academic Honors Day". I was beyond nervous for my interviewing session considering I've never done one plus could result in money towards my tuition. It was a good experience, though. It was a little overwhelming meeting a few of the teachers although they were all very nice and made me feel comfortable to talk to them. I'm not quite sure what my future holds but I'm ready to graduate and see what happens.

Within the past couple weeks, Ladue High School boys have composed teams to play recreational basketball through the local Jewish Community Center (The J). In class, Elijah volunteered me to collaborate with him on this project. I ended up saying yes because I love basketball and all of my friends play on this particular team. Getting shots for this news package was a little more challenging then I was expecting. I could've gotten more personal with a few shots on the coaches but I felt like what I took was good. This was a fun little news package to do with Elijah and Kate, with all of us doing a different perspective of these games. Elijah did the player's perspective, Kate was a fan's perspective, and mine was obviously two of the three coach's perspective.
This was my first time ever being in the studio working with a set up like this. When Mr. Goble introduced that we were making the Ladue View, I had no clue as to what he was even talking about. He explained all the jobs which sounded like a foreign language to me. I ended up choosing the teleprompter person who scrolls for the anchors when they read. It was amazing to see how much work really goes into creating a show like this and trying to make it perfect. It was important for our class to stay positive because many times we would mess up and need to restart. Blaming gets you no where. Finally watching the final product today in my seminar class brought a feeling of accomplishment to me knowing I had a video included in Ladue View and got to help in the literal making of it. I'm excited for the next one that comes out in January. To watch December's show, click here.
Kate Huber and I collaborated with students Jake Tackes and Jason Pummer in Panorama to create a delicious fall treat called Pumpkin Muffins inspired my Panera. In this project, I recorded all of the videos and edited all of the video. Kate wrote the entire script and recorded all of the voiceovers, as well as providing her home to cook in. Jason and Jake were there to help with some extra hands in the cooking project and to provide something new to look at besides Kate. Life every project, we were on track but soon discover a problem. In this project, we had to re record all the voice overs because it was too close to her mouth and was making this noise that we didn't want. So after 10 minutes of recording, we redid it and fixed it. Also, looking back and watching the whole video, it looks a little fast. But besides all that, this project was fun and different to do. I really enjoyed this project with Kate.
For my first Broadcast technology class, I decided to do a project with my fellow classmate, Kate Huber, about why students at Ladue High School wear what they wear. Since I haven't taken this class since my sophomore year, it was a little bit challenging getting back into the swing of things. There was a lot of trial and error which is okay because now I know what and what not to do. It was fun leaving class and interviewing people, but it was hard at the same time because I felt like I was disturbing a class or using someone's lunch time to record them. My critiques were good as well so now I can fix them in my future projects. I know better to use more diversity and to even put an intro and outro next time!
Senior 6th grade camp counselors. About a week ago, I attended my first year as a counselor at Ladue Middle School's 6th Grade Camp. I haven't been back to Camp Mihaska since my own 6th grade year. The purpose of the camp is to get the 6th graders to meet new people, but also to learn team building skills while being in a group they aren't used to. The camp offers group activities that tests the kids ability to work together and communicate. For my group, they weren't good with each other at the beginning. But by the end it was amazing to see the growth they made with each other as a team but also individually. There were natural leaders of the group who learned to take a step back and let the team work together. There were people in the group that definitely held the group back, but that did not stop our mighty team 11 from completing all the activities. They truly were encouraging and stayed positive almost the entire time. The only negative thing about the whole experience is how much school I missed, as well as some volleyball practices. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who's thinking about considering being a counselor.
My final news package was about my mom and how she is a musician that plays for the community and church. I took all of these shots on my iPhone 8 accept for the interviews which some are surprised about. I was really stressed about this project and making sure that I had enough B Roll and making sure that everything was in place by the deadline. I didn't get enough shots the first try around at church so I made my mom change into the clothes she wore the week before so I could get more B Roll. She wasn't too happy about that. She was very cooperative on all that I asked of her and I'm very thankful for that. Also, thank you Mr. Goble and Mrs. Davidson for helping me so much and answering my millions of questions about editing.
This class ended up being fun for me. In all honesty, I didn't want to take this classic the beginning of the semester because I thought it was going to be hard. I just needed the credit and my counselor suggested I take it. But I ended up being good at it and liking it. I liked this class because there is structure but at the same time you get freedom to go out on your own and get the stuff done. There's also no tests which was nice. The only thing I didn't like was the room we were in because it's very small and tight. Other than that, I enjoyed this class. My favorite project was the final news package because I got to do it on my mom who is so amazing for letting me bug her for so many weeks. She really pulled through a lot of times. I wouldn't have done anything differently. I would be interested in taking Broadcast Technology II maybe because I'm good at this but I'm not sure it fit into my schedule yet. Thank you, Mr. Goble for a great semester.
For this project, I interviewed my mom who is considered an expert piano player/musician. I did this interview in my family music room with the piano in the background. I was originally going to interview my dad but it didn't work out. I had to rent a camera and take extra batteries and a stand home. When I interviewed my mom, I had to come up with extra questions on the spot because I hadn't filled up the 3 minute limit. She did a good job of elaborating on the questions I asked and I tried to use the phrase "tell me" a couple of times. I took this interview in one try and it ended up being ok. The only bad thing that happened is that I didn't pronounce the questions very well and it's hard to hear me completely because I didn't have a mic on. I didn't have any trouble with the audio working which I was happy about. Overall, I enjoyed this project and I found out some new information about my mom's music career.
